Generalizations of the Global Cardinality Constraint for Hierarchical Resources

چکیده
We propose generalizations of the Global Cardinality Constraint (gcc) in which a partition of the variables is given. In the context of resource allocation problems, such constraints allow the expression of requirements, in terms of lower and upper bounds, for resources with different capabilities. Alternate models using gcc’s are shown to be weaker. We present filtering algorithms based on flow theory that achieve domain consistency and give experimental evidence of the usefulness of such constraints. We consider an optimization version of the constraints and discuss its relationship with the cost gcc.

A Mathematical Optimization Model for Solving Minimum Ordering Problem with Constraint Analysis and some Generalizations
In this paper, a mathematical method is proposed to formulate a generalized ordering problem. This model is formed as a linear optimization model in which some variables are binary. The constraints of the problem have been analyzed with the emphasis on the assessment of their importance in the formulation. On the one hand, these constraints enforce conditions on an arbitrary subgraph and then g...
متن کاملParameterized Algorithms for Constraint Satisfaction Problems Above Average with Global Cardinality Constraints
Given a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) on n variables, x1, x2, . . . , xn ∈ {±1}, and m constraints, a global cardinality constraint has the form of ∑n i=1 xi = (1−2p)n, where p ∈ (Ω(1), 1−Ω(1)) and pn is an integer. Let AV G be the expected number of constraints satisfied by randomly choosing an assignment to x1, x2, . . . , xn, complying with the global cardinality constraint. The CSP ...
متن کاملThe Cardinality Matrix Constraint
Cardinality matrix problems are the underlying structure of several real world problems such as rostering, sports scheduling , and timetabling. These are hard computational problems given their inherent combinatorial structure. Constraint based approaches have been shown to outperform other approaches for solving these problems. In this paper we propose the cardinality matrix constraint, a spec...
متن کاملEfficient Propagators for Global Constraints
We study in this thesis three well known global constraints. The All-Different constraint restricts a set of variables to be assigned to distinct values. The global cardinality constraint (GCC) ensures that a value v is assigned to at least lv variables and to at most uv variables among a set of given variables where lv and uv are non-negative integers such that lv ≤ uv. The Inter-Distance cons...
متن کاملSymmetric Cardinality Constraint with Costs
The symmetric cardinality constraint is described in terms of a set of variables X = {x1, . . . , xk}, which take their values as subsets of V = {v1, . . . , vn}. It constraints the cardinality of the set assigned to each variable to be in an interval [lxi , uxi ] and at the same time it restricts the number of occurrences of each value vj ∈ V in the sets assigned to variables in X to be in an ...
